Frequently Asked Questions
What Specific Neighborhoods Do You Serve?
While I work across the entire city, I am frequently commissioned for projects in:
NE Portland: Irvington, Beaumont-Wilshire, Alameda, and Hollywood
SE Portland: Sellwood-Moreland, Eastmoreland, Laurelhurst, Kerns and Mount Tabor.
NW & SW Portland: The Pearl District, Alphabet District, and the Southwest Hills.
Surrounding Areas: I also accept commissions in Lake Oswego, Beaverton, and Vancouver, WA. I work statewide, and even into Seattle, San Francisco, and beyond for larger architectural commissions. What Services do you offer?
We offer a range of solutions designed to meet your needs. Custom stained glass for installation, framed panels, repair, vitreous painting, and restoration. Everything is tailored to help you move forward with clarity and confidence. We also partner with other industry professionals for services like wood sash restoration, lamination, finish carpentry, etc.
I want to learn stained glass. Do you teach?
I do not teach stained glass, but I know some great teachers in the Portland area:
Sunday’s Dream Studio
Hymartization Glass
Culotta’s Creations
Or take semester-long units at Portland Community College
Do you provide on-site consultations for stained glass in Portland?
Yes. I regularly visit homes and commercial sites throughout the Portland metro area to assess the architecture and lighting of a space. Most of my work is concentrated in historic neighborhoods like Irvington, Alameda, and Laurelhurst, where preserving the original character of the home is a priority.
Can you match the original stained glass style of a historic Portland home?
Absolutely. Whether you own a Craftsman in Southeast or a Victorian in Northwest, my process involves studying the specific era and glass textures original to that era and neighborhood. I specialize in creating new pieces that feel like an organic part of the home’s history rather than a modern addition.
Do you offer leaded glass repair for residential properties?
Yes, I provide professional repair and restoration services for leaded and stained glass. Many clients in historic districts reach out when original windows have sagged or cracked over time. I focus on structural restoration that maintains the artistic integrity of the original piece. Please note that not all “leaded glass” is lead. Many of these windows are constructed with zinc, which presents different restoration challenges.
What is the process of ordering a stained glass window from you?
We have a conversation about your wishes, location, and general dimensions of the window.
I will provide an estimate-see my Pricing page- and collect a deposit.
If the work will be installed I conduct a site visit to take precise measurements and note light levels
I will then start drawing and send images of my designs for collaborative refinement.
I give options for glass-usually a few different palettes/textures
I start fabrication once supplies arrive and your project is at the head of the line
Most projects take 2-3 weeks once fabrication starts, depending on the scope.
Installation and celebration!
How do i find a reputable stained glass studio?
If you're here, you've already found a stained glass studio! See my portfolio page and reviews. For small scale residential clients located over 100 miles from Portland, OR, start with a Google search for "custom stained glass near me" to discover local businesses. Review their websites and portfolios to find the best match for your needs. Another great resource is the Stained Glass Association of America, which can guide you to reputable studios, though most of them are located outside of Oregon.
What determines the value of stained glass window?
The value of a stained glass window is often highest when it remains in its original architectural setting, as it contributes to the overall value of the building. If removed, intact panels from notable studios may warrant professional appraisal, especially if signed. Damage, such as broken pieces, significantly reduces value due to costly repairs. Additionally, designs with broad appeal tend to be more valuable than highly personal or religious artwork. For an accurate assessment, consider consulting an expert.
What is the value of my Tiffany lamp or chandelier?
Many people confuse the term "Tiffany lamp" with the Tiffany method of construction, which uses copper foil and solder to create intricate, 3D designs. However, true Tiffany Studios pieces, founded by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), are rare and highly valuable, often marked as such. If you suspect you have an authentic Tiffany Studios lamp, consult a professional to verify its authenticity, as many reproductions exist. Genuine Tiffany Studios lamps can fetch between $100K and $3.3M at auction. Other high-quality lamps made by different artists can still hold significant value, typically ranging from $500 to $5,000, depending on their condition and craftsmanship. Simple chandeliers rarely fetch over $100, but it will depend on your audience and how attractive/in style your light is.

How is leaded stained glass made?
For a comprehensive article on that, see my blog. The short version is that colored or clear glass is cut into shapes, then fitted together with came that has an “H” profile. The glass is fairly uniform in thickness, and one end of the glass slides into the top or bottom of the “H”. The joints are soldered, then the panel is cemented for water tightness, strength, and durability. For a visual example I made a video that shows me make a large stained glass window from cutting to installation.
